About Montevallo

It’s not unusual to see a dragon or a tree grin at you in Montevallo. It’s also not unusual to see Revolutionary soldiers or George Washington stroll across a field in this town. Nor is it unusual for purple and gold ribbons to flutter from giant oaks at special times during the year. No, for in Montevallo these are every-day occurrences.
But that doesn’t mean these sights are ordinary. Instead, they’re what make Montevallo unique and full of possibilities—whether you live here
year-round or visit for a day.

This city with a population of about 5,000 is located 30 miles south of Birmingham. With a unique cultural charm and village-type atmosphere Montevallo has it all: the state’s only public liberal arts university, a colonial village where history comes to life, a green park with whimsical tree carvings, top-notch schools, historic homes, welcoming neighborhoods, a Main Street that features shops and restaurants unique to the area and a church almost 150 years old. So whether you fancy sitting on a porch, sipping white-chocolate mochas, or wish to traipse through a lush park beside a wandering creek, Montevallo is home to all this and more.

Explore culture and the arts at the University of Montevallo, participate in history at The American Village, shop through the stores on Main Street or enjoy the natural beauty of the town with a stroll through its neighborhoods and park. You’re invited to experience the life of Montevallo.
