The Montevallo Chamber of Commerce prides itself
on being the "Voice of Business" for Montevallo. The
Chamber serves as a conduit for information that has the potential
to affect the business community as a whole. "Chamber
Chatter," a monthly publication of the Chamber, is a
widely read vehicle for disseminating news to Montevallo citizens.
The newsletter features sections for "City News,"
"Chamber Chatterings," "School News"
and "Church News."Another popular feature
is the full-page listing of "Things to Do and Places
to Go in Montevallo."
From resources on sales-tax figures and population demographics,
the Chamber has a broad availability of information to help businesses
make informed decisions.
Every day, the Chamber expands the business
base of local merchants. The Chamber serves as an ambassador for
visitors and those interested inrelocating to the area. These
prospects, once residents of Montevallo, have the potential to
become customers and clients of local businesses. The Chamber
also serves as a referral base when customers are looking for
specific products and services.
Through its monthly meetings, the Chamber offers
members an opportunity to network and hear speakers that present
programs on timely topics that such as economic development, zoning,
manufacturing, private enterprise and
management.
The Chamber serves as an excellent liaison between
the community and the University
of Montevallo. When UM programs, such as athletic
camps or conferences, bring hundreds of visitors to the city,
the Chamber notifies local restaurants and businesses of their
pending arrival. Chamber Ambassadors and other members serve as
hosts and hostesses for on-campus events, such as the recent regional
men's basketball tournament that drew hundreds of visitors to
the Montevallo area this spring.
The Chamber also serves as the planning catalyst
for a number of city-wide events, including ribbon-cutting celebrations
for new businesses, "Fall Comes to Main Street"
in October, the Christmas Parade in November
and the "Christmas-on-the-Creek" Series
in December. The Chamber also hosts a local golf tournament each
year and is involved in a number of ongoing projects such as the
beautification of Magnolia Lane, Move-In
Day at the University, the annual Labor Day celebration,
Arbor Day, park/walking trail development,and
charitable events. The Chamber is also co-sponsor of the annual
Citizens' Night Banquet, a tradition that will
soon celebrate its 30th birthday. The banquet recognizes outstanding
citizens from throughout the community and is one of the spring
highlights in the city.
Montevallo's Chamber serves as a focal point
to provide information to assist those interested in visiting
the area, as well as providing assistance once they arrive. Information
is offered about local restaurants, lodging establishments, grocery
stores, service stations, and retail and service-sector businesses.
A Welcome Center for the city and the University
is located at Chamber headquarters in the Will Lyman House,
thus providing more opportunities for the Chamber to extend guests
an enthusiastic Montevallo welcome. City and county maps, brochures
about local attractions, walking tours, a restaurant guide, and
a variety of other printed materials about Montevallo are always
available. A literature rack is also available to display promotional
materials from local businesses.
Remember, the Montevallo Chamber of Commerce
is a working partnership of businesses, industrial and professional
people who recognize the wisdom of coordinating their efforts
for community and economic betterment.
